It feels like, it has been a while since I produced one of these series where I tackle Football Manager and hopefully lead a club to glory. As you may recall (and if you don't then shame on you) the last time I did a Football Manager series, I was the manager of Burnley where I achieved the impossible and I won the Premier League with Twitter expert Andre Gray leading the charge. I abandoned that career because frankly I outgrew Burnley and with management offers on the table from big European teams, I could simply not stay in Burnley much longer. England did come calling, which I ultimately regret because we would have beaten Croatia if I was in charge but hey ho, such is life.
(The decision to leave Burnley was not in anyway related to the fact that I bought Football Manager 2018. That is fake news like Donald Trump so famously says)
Now I am back in the ever-suffering world that is Football Manager, which undoubtedly cripples your social life until you look as pale as Dracula. So if you see outside at any point, please alert the authorities. Anyway back to the series, so I decided to take control of Wolves mainly because, at this current time, Wolves have got much potential going forward. Wealthy owners, a great manager (even better one coming in..winky face) and a squad ready to achieve.
So, hopefully, I can replicate what Nuno Espirito Santos did and win the League but in the words of Brian Clough "I want to win the League but I want to win it better".
This series will be called Hungry Like The Wolves in memory of that famous song by Duran Duran. It was originally supposed to be called The Wolfpac, as an homage to the group in WCW (I have lost you all at this point) in late 1990's but no some Wolves hooligan on Instagram decided otherwise and it has completely derailed my thoughts and plans for the series.
Transfers/Formation
Due to Football Manager being strict on positioning on this game and with me wanting to get the best out of the players early doors, I have gone with a 4-2-1-3 formation. Both Full Backs will be set to attacking so we can penetrate in behind (not in that way). I will be looking to players such as Ruben Neves to orchestrate that midfield, the way he did in real life along with Benik Afobe up front who I know bags for fun on this game.
Transfers in:
Leonardo Da Silva-Lopes (£3.6m) from Peterborough United
Scott McTominay (Loan) from Manchester United
Ronaldo Viera (Loan) from Leeds United
Ryan Fredericks (£4.2m) from Fulham
Joe Mason (£1.6m) to Preston North End
Bright Enobakhare (Loan) to Scunthorpe United
Game 1- Middlesbrough (H)- EFL Championship
I am one of those people, just like everyone probably who leaves the pre-season friendlies to the assistant manager. So whilst my assistant was taking care of the team, I was in Hawaii taking a well-deserved vacation. During pre-season, we went undefeated with Benik Afobe banging on average two goals a game. Ivan Cavaliero is suspended for this game and Diogo Jota picked up an injury so he will be unavailable for the first game as we look to kick our campaign off in style.
The lineup for the game is: Ruddy, Doherty, Coady, Miranda, Douglas, Saiss, Neves, Da Silva-Lopes, Mir, Graham, Afobe

Within the space of two minutes, we blew a 2-0 lead. Obviously defensively we need to be much better but I am happy with the overall attacking intent by my side. Benik Afobe starting off the season in fantastic fashion by bagging a brace, one of the goals was an absolute worldie. Da Silva-Lopes ran the show in midfield as I see this as two points dropped rather than a point gained.
Game 2- AFC Wimbledon- EFL Cup
To anyone who has read my previous series, which is everyone right? You know that I did not have the best of luck in cup competitions but this time around it will be different. I am going to hand full debuts to the likes of Scott McTominay and Ryan Fredericks and a few others as they look to impress in the cup.
The lineup for the game is: Norris, Fredericks, Batth, Boly, Douglas, Viera, N'Diaye, McTominay, Mir, Graham, Bonatini
"but this time around it will be different". We lost on penalties and the cup dream is over, love it when that happens when you hope for the best and misery comes of it. We didn't take our chances, simple as that. The next game we have to make a statement.
Game 3- Derby County (A) -EFL Championship
It's fair to say, it's not been the best of starts for my Wolves side but there have been positives in our play, we just need to be more clinical and what better way to prove that than by playing top of the table Derby. Several changes have been made from the side that lost in midweek and we have reverted back to the side which drew with Middlesbrough. The only change is that Cavaliero comes in for Rafa Mir.
Lineup: Ruddy, Doherty, Miranda, Coady, Douglas, Saiss, Neves, Da Silva-Lopes, Cavaliero, Graham Afobe

A smash and grab win but I will take it. We haven't had the luck in the past two games but today we certainly rode our luck. John Ruddy the penalty hero and the hero up the other end was Romain Saiss who headed from a corner. Delighted that we kept a clean sheet which will give us confidence in the future. COME ON BOYS
Game 4- Hull City (A)- EFL Championship
After we managed our first win of the season, I am looking to build on that with another away win, this time at Hull who by game time would have probably tried to change their name for the 345th time. I go with the exact same lineup as the last game, as I look to build the chemistry between the players which will hopefully produce better results in the near future.
Breaking News: Diego Jota has fully recovered from his injury as Wolves Manager Nathan Best drops Jordan Graham for tonight's game.
Lineup: Ruddy, Doherty, Miranda, Coady, Douglas, Saiss, Neves, Da Silva-Lopes, Cavaliero, Diego Jota, Afobe

We are cooking now lads. It was great to see Diogo Jota get his first goal for the club and not only that we came from behind to win, so already we are showing that Brendan Rogers special of hard work, character, and intensity. Afobe once again getting on the scoresheet as well as Cavaliero doing wonders on that right-hand side. We are up to fourth after three games played. Solid start from the lads.
Game 5- Cardiff City (H)-EFL Championship
The last game of today's piece sees us back on home soil against second-place Cardiff where a win could see us in those promotion places and maybe even top of the table. I have made one change from the lineup on Tuesday's game and that is Wily Boly comes in for Miranda at centre back.
Lineup: Ruddy, Doherty, Boly, Coady, Douglas, Saiss, Neves, Da Silva-Lopes, Cavaliero, Diogo Jota, Afobe

Another game, another win. The boys are starting to gel and it's great to see. Romain Saiss with a beautiful volley from the edge of the box gives us the win as that wraps up today's piece, as we are up to second in the League with leaders Brentford away next. It will be spicy, to say the least.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
